One day I lift the telephone
and be told Chung Chung's dead. He's ready.
In the sureness of his faith, he went to
the world beyond this world
His reservation had been made. I think he wanted to go,
a new desire
to travel building up, an itch
to see fresh worlds.

I wanna follow him
and wrap him in my arms and laugh,
the way I did when he was living
on earth

He was ready. I am not. I can't
just say good-bye as cheerfully
as if he were embarking on a trip
to make my later trip go well.

I am convinced
I'll be seeing him standing on the deck
and waving, shouting
waving the scarf
shouting
