BRAVING THE CURRENT
For Jan And Gary
Life is not easy, even when it's easy
or so it seems
And when we make big mistakes
it can seem to be the end of our dreams
Gary made mistakes, one after the other
they piled up, then he crashed, all so abrupt
Years it has been at his young age
spent behind bars, pain, sorrow and rage
The Lord has been there for him, never failed
turning to Him at times, others on his own he sailed
Then there was a turning as family and he prayed
he found he could turn his life around, though in prison stayed
There were ups, happy, and downs so very low,
he wondered if this roller coaster would ever slow
Then a letter came, from a woman who
had read his writings, thoughts and times he rued
They corresponded, commiserated on life and it's woes
seeking to gain higher ground, onward they would go
So much in common from mistakes and pain
they knew the Lord could help them joy to gain
Falling in love with each other then came
they shared the joy and excitement, feeling the same
Life is not easy, nor will it be so,
the current is strong, against it they must go
Jan became his wife, after much prayer and talk
With the Lord as their guide, hand in hand they now walk

Though still in prison, he and Jan were married
