Subject: So let's be honest here about ID and the stages for girls versus the boys

Given the expensive nature of Irish dancing and the relative number of girls versus boy competitors who is surprised that the girls get and deserve a larger venue?

If someone is claiming that the stage square footage (floor space) given to the boys is inadequate for a high level dancer then that's one thing. I don't hear anyone saying that.

I am just not understanding this issue ... it does not seem to be an issue.

[> As a worlds and AI's attender before, my thoughts inside -- congratulations whereever you dance, 04:54:24 03/08/09 Sun [1]

the rooms that have been allocated to sets have always been in smaller rooms. The most excitement has been in the main room and then the recaller go off to do their set elsewhere. One would never go in there unless you had a specific interest. I get the feeling that the room where the boys will dance won't have the same ambiance as it will only be the parents, friends of the boys. Now on the plus size there won't be as much talking, stepping over dress bags etc as the people who go into the boys stages will be there to see them dancing and not just getting ready for their competition after the boys. I think in the end it will be good and we will see some fantastic dancing there. I can't wait.

[> I have to agree, on all ends. The issue is simply that by putting the boys in the smaller auditorium, they are taken out of the "center ring" so to speak, and that is unfortunate. On the other hand, the distractions and shortcomings of the larger ballroom will be gone (talking, excessive movement, unable to hear the dancers, etc), and the competitors and audience will likely have an overall more enjoyable experience. But the concerns are that the boys are all to often set aside as not as good or not as worthy of the girls, which is a real shame. The level of competition among the boys (even though lesser in #s) is phenomenal, and shouldn't be missed by any in attendance. -- I can't wait myself., 07:00:16 03/08/09 Sun [1]

[> I'm concerned by your use of the words "expense" and "deserve". Are you saying that because the girls spend more on their costumes that they deserve the bigger venue? -- Ann, 12:38:24 03/08/09 Sun [1]

[> As a competitor, it doesn't bother me. I've done my set late on a Friday night at many Oireachtasi with practically nobody in the room. It doesn't matter to me as long as there is someone there who appreciates my performance. It's Worlds, let's all enjoy it -- :), 12:14:35 03/09/09 Mon [1]

[> If the stage size is appropriate, there is no complaint. If all of the comps can't be in the same venue, choices must be made. My son's O's were sandwiched between the HUGE U14 girls group (huge group, not huge girls!). Would love to have shorter comps surrounding! -- Dance, boys, dance!, 13:27:37 03/09/09 Mon [1]
