It seems to be a chemical thing, although there are situational triggers that can make it better or worse. I've been in situations, though, where I should have laughed at what was going on, but just got annoyed. I am less depressed in some situations than in others on the same day, even when I am in a general state of depression. However, I know that if I stop taking my medication, at the end of a few days, or sometimes less, I will be sitting at the bottom of a pit of misery. My older daughter suffers from the same thing, but since her life has become a little less difficult she is no longer taking her medication, with her doctor's blessing.

Still, I'm considered a cheerful guy in general.
