Subject: (37-2) At first I figured it was Joe Doherty, but Casey doesn't think it is, so who am I to doubt him? So then I thought it might be someone out to avenge Love Hagerty. The torture part makes me think they were trying to extract some information from Casey. (Just as a side story, a friend of my dh's is from Ireland. He told us about his great-uncle who was killed by the IRA. This great-uncle was not a loyalist or IRA member; he'd been questioned by the Black and Tans, and was allowed to live. The local IRA apparently felt the man must have given information to the Black and Tans since he survived, and therefore deserved death as a traitor. Once questioned by the Black and Tans, one usually ended up dead by one group or the other, so we were told.) (37-3) Strangely enough, I felt it really WAS the safest place for Casey at this point!
In reply to: Carla 's message, "Chapter 37: Zorba and Company Despite the deadly serious nature of his task, I found myself smiling at the image of Jamie as "Zorba, The Greek" in this chapter. Then I had a vision of Jamie in his get-up and Casey as the priest pulling off some scheme together and laughed out loud. Now, on to the questions." on 08:39:50 09/24/07 Mon

  • 38-1) I can imagine some pretty awful things; I don't think anything I was told would surprise me. Still, I wouldn't relish having someone point out the details to me in so many words. (NT) -- Elaine, 14:22:24 09/24/07 Mon
