Subject: I actually didn't think the marriage was dangerous for Casey until Pat pointed it out. I thought perhaps because 'they' could threaten harm to Pamela and therefore break Casey, or try to turn Pamela against Casey and the IRA because she was from away and therefore no real allegiance to Ireland, or perhaps they thought she couldn't be trusted. I'm interested to hear what others think.

  • The danger to Casey from his marriage to Pamela didn't occur to me until Pat mentioned it. I took it to mean that because Pamela is from away -- and therefore an unknown quantity -- Casey may be considered a weak link and therefore he, or both of them, may be killed to keep them from giving away any secrets. • It is just that she's from 'away' and outsiders are always looked upon suspiciously in the sort of neighbourhood Casey came from. With his position within the IRA it was that much riskier to marry a woman about whom no one knew a thing- not where her loyalties might lie, her background etc. (NT) -- celtgirl, 12:27:45 08/19/09 Wed
