I don't know if there are some people irrevocably damaged, I'd hate to consider that to be the case. Robin obviously feels beyond hope though, and has for a long time, so it is surprising that he has not somehow taken an opportunity to catch a bullit in the chest. Perhaps he felt there was some unfinished business in his life that needed tending before he left our world, or some latent Catholic upbringing stopped him from committing suicide.
