and they make poor choices that are detrimental for themselves and others. Yes, I believe they will never be at peace on this earth. Perhaps they retain a thread of hope, but in the long run, their life will probably be nothing more than misery. This describes my father well.

Emotionally, I understand Pamela's reaction to Casey, that he basically put her in that situation where she'd have to give in to Haggerty, but from a logical standpoint, it was still a choice. Based on love, but still a conscious choice. Not that I'm letting Casey off easily, though. Pamela has yet to forgive herself for killing Haggerty (and even though someone else did the job, the responsibility for his murder lies squarely on her shoulders). Were I Casey, I'd also have to leave. Were I Pamela, well, I'd better not go there. Sometimes I don't know what to think about Pamela - if she's courageous, or naive and reckless. I like her, but I'm not sure I know and understand her fully.
