In this chapter we meet Emma, a self-proclaimed whore, has befriended Casey. Emma is also an "associate" of Love.

Emma asks Casey to drive her to a place in the White Mountains to find her friend, Rosemary.

They find Rosemary, throat slit, and are forced to stay overnight because of the snow and storm.

They report the crime to the police and are let go after some serious questioning. Casey seems to be have the feeling that the other shoe may still drop in this situation.

Casey's gut is right when two weeks later Emma tells him the police are asking more questions and seem to think Casey is involved in the murder of Rosemary. She advises him to leave town.

The reader sees that Emma leaves Casey and immediately gets into a car with Love. It seems that Casey has been set up.
