I think he felt Jamie was well-connected and thought he might know the people to call to track Casey down discretely. Belfast is a small city, in relative terms, and I'm sure Pat would have heard lots of talk/gossip about the Kirkpatricks and what they were involved in. I saw it as a bit of a desperate move, as well; with no where else to safely turn he went to the most powerful man he knew. As Carla said, it's a bit of desperation on Pat's part, but it's also that much of Jamie and Pat's relationship takes place off the page- and that Pat suspects there's much more to His Lordship than directly meets the eye. - I had a feeling there was a bit of a kindred spirit between the two after the scene in the Jamie's library. I am betting each see's a bit of themselves in the other even with the different socio-economic backgrounds. I think that's what I assumed upon my first reading and just wanted to make sure I had seen things correctly.     - I didn't realize before that Pat and Jamie had such a relationship or at least the connection between them. One thing in common is that Pamela didn't choose either one but is very close with them both.
