Subject: Here's a glimpse of Pat at some point in the future, but he's not doing anything that's going to melt your snow>>>
In reply to: Carla 's message, "You know, it's a cold and snowy day here and I think we've had incredible lust, umm I mean love, scenes from Casey and Jamie. Is there one from Pat? You could always remove the woman's name if it would be a spoiler. Think of it as a little pre-Christmas giftee to complete the Trinity of Casey, Jamie and Patrick." on 16:16:26 12/16/07 Sun

“I remember a discussion we had in our philosophy class in university, where we started talkin’ about choice, an’ how each choice was a fork in the road, an’ how the road of yer life would endlessly fork, even by a decision so simple as which bus ye’d take or whether or not ye’d go to a party. There was a wee girl, sat in the back of the lecture hall, quiet as a mouse, no one had paid her any mind all semester. Suddenly though she pipes up an’ says that we all live the life we’re meant to an’ that if we’d chosen other paths this life would be the one we’d long for. It started quite the debate, but she stood her ground an’ convinced the most of us that she believed it, even if we didn’t.”

He laid his hand over her own on the stone bench. “I’ve thought about what she said many a time over the years, an’ I think she was right.” His fingers curled around hers, clasping them in the strength and warmth of his palm, “We live the life we’re meant to.”

Pat swallowed and shook his head. “No, it does not always give me solace. At times I thought it would tear my heart to pieces just to see the stars still there in the sky. After Sylvie died I didn’t look up for a year. I watched the ground burn beneath my feet, but I didn’t look up. It seemed grotesque that they’d still be there forming constellations, that they’d not fall down from the sky for the grief of losing her. And I didn’t want to know if I could feel beauty, if anything could touch me still.”

“I remember coming out into that morning, the sky was just beginnin’ to lighten along the horizon, even the trees were just sleepy smudges. An’ there was Vega, so blue and bright, just pulsing in the sky. I stood there for a long time, watchin’ the sky band itself into brighter an’ brighter blue an’ still that star stood out like something alive against an unconscious world. I felt like I couldn’t breathe an’ I knew I was goin’ to have a panic attack but I couldn’t look away from the star at the same time.
