quick anecdote:

when i was DC visiting (4 yrs ago?), the only time i've ever been there, i was following my friend down this little sidewalk; he knew where we were going, and he walks way too fast for my short legs. I stumped my toe on the sidewalk that was all torn up. I musta said F*CK or something that got his attention, because he turned around just as i was falling.

Helped me regain my balance.

When i caught my breath again, i said you gotta be kiddin, is this a city or federal sidewalk, who could i sue if i got hurt?

by then my head had stopped spinning, and i looked up to see where i was.

oh look! it's the Environmental Protection Agency. of the United States of America.

how appropriate.

i think i even said "oh thank you, president bush" which sidewalk passersby heard me say, and turned their heads smiled as if to say, welcome to DC.
