There is a good example on pag.26 from Celce-Murcia & Olshtain text (first paragraph) to explain what cross cultural pragmatics is. The Japanese girl violated the Jewish rulers of politeness. In this situation, the girl leaves the impression of being impolite, even it was not her intention. Therefore, "Cross-cultural pragmatics takes the point of view that individuals from two societies or communities carry out their interactions (whether spoken or written) according to their own rules or norms, often resulting in a clash in expectations and, ultimately, misperceptions about the other group." p.151
