新版《辭海》將於 10月 1日前夕面世。參與編纂的負責人透露，這次修訂新增一萬多條目，內容改動幅度逾三分之一，刪去過氣條目 7,000多條。新版《辭海》拒收「超女」、「囧」等網絡熱門用字，卻新增中共的新觀點及理論，打破歷版《辭海》只收錄古漢語的慣例，但被網民譏諷：「《辭海》變成了一本政治書。」

即將出版的《辭海》，除內容備受爭議外，由中共前總書記江澤民心腹、全國人大副委員長陳至立任主編，破了歷版由學者任主編慣例，一度被網民指是中國文化的「墮落」。她自 2005年接手《辭海》修訂後，立下軍令狀，要在中共建政 60周年前夕推出這部巨著作為獻禮。

除國家級的《辭海》重新修訂之外，中共內部工具書《黨的建設辭典》，在時隔 20年後，也再次修訂出版。「跑官要官」、「網絡反腐」、「帶病提拔」、「群體性事件」等新詞彙被收錄，而「修正主義」、「投機倒把」等過氣詞彙，則被刪除。
負責編纂修訂這部中共黨內工具書的編者，多是 40出頭的年輕人，他們了解當代讀者需求，懂得照顧新時代年輕人的語言習慣。整部辭典 1,015個詞條，有 1/3是新收詞彙， 1/3是詞彙新解， 1/3是紀錄歷史遺存的軌迹。
