【本報訊】華人科學家再次揚威海外，國際知名數學家丘成桐因成功攻破「卡拉比猜想（ Calabi Conjecture）」，摘下 09年沃爾夫數學獎（ Wolf prize in Mathematics），是繼陳省身後第二位奪獎的華人。丘成桐現時身在哈佛大學擔任講座教授，對得獎感到十分高興，他向本報表示將在 3月中回港，期後與太太前往以色列，出席 5月 13日的頒獎禮。
沃爾夫獎由外交家、實業家及慈善家沃爾夫於 1976年成立的沃爾夫基金會所頒發，範圍包括化學、數學、醫學等，每年評選一次，其中數學獎的重要性僅次於菲爾茲數學獎（ Fields Medal），以色列總統將於今年 5月在當地頒發有關獎項，每個範疇的其中一名得獎者將發表短講。

早在 82年取得菲爾茲數學獎的丘成桐，昨日收到評審委員會的電郵，對於得獎十分高興，「 It has been a good prize（這是個極佳獎項），以前得獎嘅都係十分好嘅科學家，包括我老師陳省身。」
