many of these changes reflect a common theme of sexuality. in the 50's it was dance styles in the form of swing symbolized by the thrusting hips of elvis. lyrically, sex oriented themes began in the 20's with jazz, although they were metaphorically done as to cover up much of the inappropriateness.

music took changes both structurally and lyrically. with jazz and swing, the music was big band and synthesized sounds became predominant. towards the 50s and into the early 60s, music became targeted towards younger audiences with pop sounds and simple lyrics. by the end of the 60s, lyrics, as shown by the beatles and the beach boys, took a poetic turn with much more complicated and at times classical music.

from a very victorian ethic, people socially evolved
