The 20's were a real time of change. They brought about an unique music; jazz. Jazz made music an art, the instrumentation alone was revolutionary in that the songs for some groups were not written out, but played as a conversation. The dancing during this time is most remembered in swing. The dancing consisted of mostly swinging people around and partners had to get closer than just hands. The fashion reflected all that was going on. The men would dress in fancy suits and the girls in higher skirts. Even language evolved around swing, they had their own slang and culture that went with it.
In the mid 50's we get rock and roll, which was a combination of and influenced by electric blues, jump bands adn boogie woogie. The music changed from just standing on stage to real crazy stage performances. Elvis is the main man we think of, and he was an influence in dress and expression. Elvis shocked the world with his hip routines and the leather jacket. Elvis is the one credited with showing that sex sells, that his camera appeal sold and his music helped. The style was music that had always been around but it really helped bridge that gap between whites and African Americans music.
The 60's is when we get into the cultural revolution. The Beatles were one of the first influences. Their music tried new electronic sounds and they experimented with drugs to make music abstract. Bob Dylan and the Beatles really brought music into the political world, creating hippies and awareness of the Vietnam War. Sex was regarded are Love and love was given to all in the 60's. The fashion was a bohemian style and created a culture. Dancing during this time was not planned steps but turned into dancing how one felt.
