There's always tomorrow

"Tomorrow's always
a new day."
I said to the lady
standing behind me.

"I sure hope so." she said.

**************************

She walked up
to the counter,
holding a near empty cup,
still dripping with coffee.

"I spilt," she said
to the gal behind the counter,
"A bad one." she added.

I looked at her
and smiled lightly,
"It happens." I said
compassionately.

"I was just sitting down
and the table wobbled,
and whoooosh, there it went,
all over the place." she said,
almost as if to herself.

"It happens," I repeated,
"It's happened to me
many times."

An image popped
into my mind
of all the times
I spilt my drink,
one being at StarBucks,
of course...
that was no loss there.

"It's a bad day for me."
she remarked
somewhat solemnly.

I could tell then
how tired she looked,
how exhausted
she must've felt,
it wasn't just
the spilt coffee
that had upset her.

Seemed to me
the spilt coffee
only added
to her distress.

She was a mother
of three, maybe four children,
perhaps this was
one of the reasons
she was so stressed.

"It's a bad day for me,"
she said again,
"A bad day..."

This was when
I turned to her
and spoke truthfully,
"Tomorrow's always
a new day."

********************

How true is this to life?

When one day passes,
another arises,
when the sun sets,
bringing on the night,
the moon glides
through the sky,
until dawn awakens
the arrival
of a new day.

Why have I
not realized this,
or even told myself
of tomorrow's promises?

Either I was too blind
or perhaps I shut out
the world,
too involved
with my grief
to see the truth
of reality.

But then it's like
suddenly
my eyes have been opened
by my own words
of insight.

We may never know
what tomorrow will bring,
but there is one thing
we can always count on,
a new day.

Yes...
tomorrow's always
a new day.

If things are bad today,
full of stress
and anxiety,
or if things
are just plain awful,
just remember,
remember...

No matter
how bad things are,
tomorrow's always
a new day,
no matter what
may come our way...
there's always tomorrow.
