] Date Posted: 19:31:58 01/25/08 Fri I wrote this as an answer to a challenge from a member of the Black Rose Poets Society...to write something reminiscent of E.A.Poe...as for the ending...well...I swear it wrote itself...I had NO control! LOL! Poe Revisited A night of moonlit secrets passed outside my chamber door as I sat with quill and inkwell, thinking of of the lost Lenore. The wind did howl and prattle, causing window frame to rattle, as my candle danced and guttered, scrawling shadows on the floor. 'Tis my imagination playing fear along my spine, or could be reservations of intoxicating wine, but a hand I hear a tapping, just outside my window rapping. Voices low with dark words muttered underneath the ancient pine. 'Tis not but wind, I tell myself, returning to my quill. There is no fiendish spirit perched upon my windowsill. My eyes I lower quickly as my skin and bones grew prickly, for beyond my window fluttered shadows sinister and chill. I rose to find my pistol, steely courage by my side. Then anxiously I waited for the terror to subside. But the creature grew much bolder as my chamber room grew colder. I tried to speak but could not utter words to keep the beast outside. The wind crashed through the window, banging shutters, slamming door. My pistol echoed in the dark, shadow fell to floor. In my mind's eye there was graven image of a fallen raven, lying limp and softly shuddered. He'll terrify me nevermore. Date Posted: 00:52:32 01/27/08 Sun Thanks so much, Sash! This was really a fun challenge, and I'm glad it turned out as well as it did! Thanks for the sweet compliment....I LOVE to read poetry that doesn't rhyme, and wish I could write more, but rhyme just DOES come more naturally...guess my brain is just wired that way! Date Posted: 08:17:59 01/28/08 Mon Shannon, Funny thing about that Raven poem. I memorized every word of it when I was in seventh grade and right to this day can still get through it, though I get caught in a few places. I loved this! I'm placing it on the Mantle for a bit so it can get a little more exposure. Truly enjoyed! thanks, andy ![]() [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
