Most of us here have no problem with spankings removing guilt with a major proviso: you also learned your lesson.

You were quite vague about the "bad state" you got yourself into with these "old friends." I am not sure that I approve of friends who assist you in entering a bad state. Shouldn't friends prevent that from happening? Or at least not aid and abet it? So, how about a reassuring post to the effect that not only are you refreshed, stress-relieved, guilt-free, and filled with new spirit but you are also going to take steps to be sure it doesn't happen again?

For very young children, the guilt-removing dimension of spanking is a mixed blessing since moral education is aimed at developing a sensitivity to what is morally wrong. Removing guilt is a rather small part of moral education and as I am hinting, a dangerous part. How do we want criminal offenders to feel about their criminal acts? Guilt-free? -- no way! That somehow they have paid a debt to society and can re-enter it? OK but paying this debt does not restore things or totally balance the scales. It may be the best one can do but it remains a fact that the offender still did the crime. Doing the time does not change that fact.
