Date Posted: 04:18:24 01/22/08 Tue Threads of many shades and hues A tapestry that was woven By a master crafter’s hands To weave the story of my life I wear my shawl with pride Yes, even the holes are beautiful Where the threads are bare And worn by the years of usage So, what then is it that you see? When you gaze lovingly at my shawl And what is it you surmise you Would do to preserve it further? There are shiny sequins that Recount the days of happiness And prickly thorns that counted The days of sorrows, yet… I wear my shawl proudly Unafraid of the world’s gaze For in every thread there is life And in every color there is emotion My shawl has been woven With love, integrity and grace So if you happen to take a closer look Would you see this? Would you stick your finger, In those tears and rip it further? Or would your nimble fingers Work beside my own to mend it? Would you wrap yourself with it, And wear it with true pride? Or would you see it as worthless And toss it aside? My shawl has kept me warm Through the storms of life And my shawl has protected Me from the many falls I’ve taken So when you look at every rip, Or see the bared threads, would You see the value of those precious Medals that adorn my shawl?
