Colleen,

Have you been able to find anything on Mariette Sherwood? She is my fiance's ancestor. I see there are other Sherwood's in Mamakating in 1850, but I don't know what their relationship is to Mariette (if any). I found her death notice but it doesn't mention anyone except her husband, Leander, and that she is buried in Montville.

My fiance is descended from Mariette's granddaughter Mary Richardson who married John Woods. If you are correct about the Indian purse, it should have been passed to Mary's daughter Ellen May Woods Kindsvater Van Houten and then to her daughter Myrtle Londino. Myrtle was a cousin of my fiance's mother, who was the daughter of John J. Woods, Jr. Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of the "Indian" legend or whether Myrtle had any children.

Looking forward to hearing from you or anyone else who has information on Mariette Sherwood Parliman.

Vicki
