The Marshall Plan was a good use of American funds not because we solely wanted to help the European nations, but because the US needed new allies. The Marshall Plan was more of a bribery than a way to help Europe, specifically Western Europe. The countries that recieved funds from the Marshall Plan were then essentially controlled by the American government since the U.S. now had the power to let the countries fall apart in ruin, or to rebuild the country and gain a new democratic ally. The Marshall Plan was a counter offensive to the spreading of communism, which now had a firm grip on most of Southern and Eastern Europe.
