In my opinion, the American decision-makers believed that the Marshall Plan was a good use of funds for the following reasons. First of all, it dramatically abetted Europe in recovering from WWII. It also benefitted the American economy in return for the aid that they sent to Western Europe. This means that foreign trade with the U.S. could now function more effectively. Also, it made the U.S. seem stronger and more powerful in the following aspect. When Secretary of State George Marshall devised the plan, he was intimidated by the fact that if the European economy plummeted even further, the spread of communism might occur there. The Marshall Plan was the U.S.'s method of preventing further communist expansion in certain areas of Europe, especially the western portion of the continent. Therefore, American decision-makers believed that the Marshall Plan was an effective use of U.S. funds.
