Shooting inside vehicle reveals 1 man hit, another man with 39 bags of heroin

November 27, 2013 at 12:37 PM

ENFIELD, CT — Police are probing an early Wednesday shooting inside a vehicle on Enfield Street, not far from the Longmeadow line, that sent a male to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford.

Police arriving on the scene near Manning Road shortly after 1:10 a.m. found the victim in the back seat with a gunshot wound to his throat and a man in the front seat with 39 bags of heroin, Lt. Willie Pedemonti said.

The victim underwent emergency surgery at St. Francis and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Pedemonti said.

The front seat passenger, Fernando Polentino, 24, has been charged with possession of heroin with intent to sell and more charges are likely pending, Pedemonti said.

Police found a firearm in the vehicle and paperwork that led officers to the female driver in Windsor. Pedemonti said the woman and two males all knew each other.

The woman told police she had been pistol-whipped and that she fled after the shooting. “She was definitely hit several times with a hard solid object,” Pedemonti said.

Although initial news reports stated that the vehicle crashed at Enfield Street and Manning Road, Pedemonti said that was not the case.
