Boy, 4yo Canada, cystoscopy to investigate urinary problems

I had cystoscopy. I am male. The exam took place in North America, Toronto Canada, General hospital, 4 years old, Years 1960-1969.

Parents said something like: The doctor shall look at you down in your stomach. Was brought into exam by mother. Had to stop eating several hours before the cystoscopy. Given enema at home before going. Got a hospital gown before going to bed. Got lubricating and pain-killing fluid inserted in through the pee-hole.

WHAT I KNOW ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

They put a rigid stick-like cystoscope in through the urethra. Other additional exams please comment.

ARRANGEMENTS AFTER THE PROCEDURE

Had catheter in the bladder some time after the exam. Had to stay in bed more that a day after the exam.

DIAGNOSIS AND FOLLOW-UP

Diagnosis - reflux of urine up towards the kidneys - Vescicourethetral reflux. Had corrective surgery.

REASON AND JUDGEMENT

The reason was problems with urination. Had cystoscopy because of known handicaps or physical development problems. It was useful.

COMMENTS

This was a normal procedure and follow-up to investigate and treat a common development problem.
