Girl, 13yo, Hamburg Germany, combined orthopedic, gynecological and social exam

This happened to my daughter, aged 13, in Hamburg, Germany Year 2000 or after.

She was examined in a Orthopedic hospital. I drove her. A doctor examined her with me, dad, and a nurse present.

OVERVIEW OF THE ORDEAL

They examined her genitals. They did a general examination of her pelvic zones. They inserted instruments into her vagina, speculum They made interrogations about her social relations and her daily life. They took ultrasound pictures of the examined areas. They spent a long time examining her feet and ankles.

PREPARATION

She got sadative or pain-killing medicines through her mouths. She was totally naked. Her positions during the exam: lying on her back

TE ORDEAL STEP BY STEP

The nurse began to take her clothes off. She looked at me, but I told her to go ahead and cooperate. Shaved her legs and pubic area completely bald. Doctor laid her on her back and moved her legs in different positions asking if any hurt. Tested range of motion then spread her legs wide apart and secured them. Then a full and thorough gynecological exam. They also had her walk up and down the hallway (still nude) to observe her gait and had her squat and sit. The exam ended by asking how she had been taken care of during her healing and gave me instructions on continuing it.

At no point did they explain why she needed to undress and be shaved for this exam. A bottle was placed at her vulva and she was told to pee into it for a sample.

REASON AND JUDGEMENT

What do you think was the reason for this exam? I'm not sure but i'm not one to second-guess medical professionals if they deem it necessary. What is your opinion about thios experience? I didn't speak up at all I felt that the best thing to do was make everything seem normal for her.

MORE ABOUT THE GENITAL EXAM

They palpated her outer female genitals. They spread her genital lips to look inside. They examined her vagina with a speculum. They also separated the labia individually and retracted the clitoral hood checking all around them.

MORE ABOUT THE RECTAL EXAM

They spread her cheeks and examined extarnally her rectal zone. They examined her rectum with an inserted finger.

OBSERVATIONS

She was called in for quite another thing, but they also examined her genital and urinary zone. Just there for a followup examination on her healed broken legs. Someone strange person came and performed an intimate exam even though she was called in for quite another reason. I was only there for followup on her broken legs.

During the exam a different doctor came in to ask how she'd been cared for and gave me suggestions. At no point did they ask if she wanted me in the room they just (correctly) assumed she did.

FOLLOW-UP

The doctor said her legs had healed up just fine but that they still need to be examined regularly

I was given a physical therapy chart with what positions to put her legs in when I test flexibility.

COMMENTS

Orthopedic problems in legs can also cause problems in the pelvic structures and also the other way. Rheumatic problems in the pelvic zones can make injuries ocur more easily. Such problems also gives misalignments in anus and vulva. This is the reason that they were so interested in the pelvic zone and genitals and the shaving.

Also the exact pubertal status will determin the growth of her scheleton and the status of healing and need for follow-up. I guess the gynecological exam had the purpose of determining the pubertal status.

The rectal check and wacthing her urination was probably to test the muscles and nervous function in her pelvic floor which will also tell about functional orthopedic problems in the hips and legs.

But it also look like they tried to find out if she got subjected to abuse that caused the injury. The totally naked state social interrogation and gynecological exam was probably also to hunt for signs of abuse.

They also watched the social interraction between her and her dad, and her reaction by being totally naked, to see any reaction that they could interprete as sign og abuse. Both lack of reaction and extreme sign of embarrasment or fair may be interpreted as sign of abuse.
