Guten Morgen Knut,

I actually wouldn’t be surprised if permanent or long term damage and complications occur somewhat often when medical students practice on young patients with procedures in sensitive areas such as the genital and urinary tract. Just simple statistics would mean urinary tract infections and incontinence would be expected. The long term effects of UTIs in young girls is incontinence and leakage of urine.

If these exams were rushed or done by inexperienced doctors, nurses or techs, then complications are more likely. I’ve heard some pediatric specialists prefer conscious sedation with the child awake, rather than completely unconscious, to avoid accidentally injuring the child during invasive procedures. When advanced diagnostic medical devices are being used, it’s not unknown for a medical tech from the device maker to perform the procedure and not a doctor or surgeon. These techs are only trained in the specifics of the devices they use, and not highly educated compared to a doctor or nurse.

One major concern of mine is the number of girls involved in gymnastic or ballet, that seem to be subjected to these extreme exams. Are they simply trying to avoid later tears or injuries alarming parents, or a more sinister and abusive activity for the gratification of others. It sure seems like the healthcare workers are clumsy and inexperienced, or simply involved for their own personal pleasure and not really for medical or research reasons.

Bitte Schon!
