Thanks for your comments about the next manager - we will probably make that decision next month, after some of the smoke has cleared around here. We here at the ballpark read the same things you do in the paper, so some of the things we'd normally do at this time of year have been put a bit on hold as we see what direction the team takes.
Personally, I do agree that bringing in a 'name' guy isn't always the way to go. First, you never know if they can actually manage 30 people (players, coaches, trainer, etc.) - I know the Cheetahs have had some interesting experiences with former big leaguers. Second, it's been my experience in other places that when you bring in a former big-leaguer, that person is immediately looking for his NEXT job, rather than giving 100 percent to the current one.
I will tell you that Greg Beck will certainly be very high among the candiates, if I have any say in the decision. More than a few players talked to me about him prior to the end of the season, which is very impressive in itself. The players won't make that decision, but it's good to know there's someone out there they'd go to war with. Beyond that, we'll see how the next few weeks shake out.
Thanks again for the comments, it's good to see that people care about what happens here in Crestwood.
