Anna kournikova bursted on the tennis seen at Wimbledon in 1997 as a 16 year and went on to make the semi finals, following that performance she signed multi million dollar contracts and she was seen as a future star of the womens game. 11 years later it is safe to say she didn't quite live up to the hype, but never the less reach a career high ranking of #8 in 2000 in a career that was affected by constant injuries and pressure from media to perform.
In the year 2000 Anna took up the smoking habit and today is still an IRL smoker.
As she was still on the tennis circuit in 2000 she had to be very careful to hide her habit as it had the potential to affect her endorsements, so she remained in the closest until late 2003. At that point she had all but retired from tennis
