Subject: I have to totally disagree! From my own experience: I work in 4 states including the one I live in and I have competed in all 4 over the years. I own land in 2, grew up in the third for 18 years and the 4th one I competed only once in that state. As a LOCAL titleholder in EVERY state I worked in, I made MORE appearances than the majority of other titleholders in my "adopted" state than people who LIVED THERE!! So what is their excuse?? This happens in MAO all the time as well. Perfect example, I lost in one of these states to the winner who later won nationals. As a local queen she made ZERO appearances, as a state winner about TWO and nationally not many more than that. I did MORE as a local winner 400 miles away than she did with two consecutive titles she didn't have to set two feet out her door to represent! Sorry, if the rules don't restrict qualification by residency (such as Mrs America), then its unfair to discriminate. I'd do a better job than many "natives" and have before.

In reply to: any advice? 's message, "How do you feel about ladies who go to school in or work in the state that you live and work in that want to compete in that states pageant? Do you think it is fair? I am here I can make the appearances This is where I live and work. I would HATE to see our state title go to a lady from out of state that will not promote it they way I can" on 19:50:03 01/14/09 Wed

I have lived here for over 30 years but like the previous poster, I own property in another state. Most pageants allow for out-of-state entries (think someone who is in the military or is a military spouse that is deployed overseas, for example.) One pageant did ask me to provide proof of property ownership (I sent a copy of a property tax bill with the account number blocked out.) Allowing out-of-state entries keeps a directors numbers up.
