Subject: Jimmy Page Question

Hi Rick!
Great forum and i was wondering if any other guitar players have tried playing the instrument with a bow? Is that the proper term?

Can Jimmy Page play the violin as well as he plays his guitars?

He sure is versatile with the different guitar sounds in blues, soul, rock, hard rock etc. and guitar instruments like accoustic and screaming guitar!

Hi Ray,

Bow or violin bow is correct. I don't know if Jimmy plays a violin. I've never read him say it in interviews. He once said he's not that good with a sitar, where John Paul is very good. Other guitar players use the bow, like in Led Zeppelin tribute bands that pay homage to them.

John Sykes is a veteran guitar virtuoso and he played the violin bow for "Still of the Night" for the 1987 'Whitesnake' album. His replacement guitarists that followed played the bow for the live shows in later years. Some guitarists picked up the bow after they heard and saw Jimmy use it. There could be a list online someplace.

Rick
