Subject: Hello from Diana W.

Hello! Hello! Thank you Ruth and Bob for letting me know about this website. Kudos to Ruth for getting this website up and running; it is a wonderful idea. I, too, celebrate our early arm-in-arm friendships. Even though I lived way out of town and had rather reserved parents, most of the time I felt very connected to the class of 1963. I confess that I still have a small stack of our grade school photos! After our 20th reunion, the Chronotype published a brief piece that I wrote that sang the praises of class reunions; I still feel the same way after all this time.

I loved reading the news that has already been posted. Hi Martha! I believe it was around 1965 when I last saw you! It has been fun to read about your interesting life.

In 1007, my husband and I moved from northern Vermont to north central Florida. That, unfortunately, was a huge Oops! Newt was very disappointed that I was so unhappy in Florida, and I was sorry to have so under-estimated my Yankee roots and need for all things New England, so after much deliberation, we decided to return to the northeast – specifically western Massachusetts. I arrived in Northampton at the end of June 2008, just in time to spend a long, sad summer with my sister Sharon, whose struggle with breast cancer had taken its final turn. Newt came north at the end of August and I was grateful that he was here with me when we lost Sharon at the end of September. Now, it seems that we will move one more time – to Virginia. This time the job market is determining the move. In the meantime, I am working as an office administrator at the Unitarian Society in Northampton – working on a miscellany of Society tasks including scheduling building space and producing the Sunday Times – a weekly program of Society news and events. When I’m not in the office, I am subbing in the Northampton schools. I will be happy when this state of transition is behind us and we are once again settled. In the meantime, I love being near my grown son and daughter and their families, which include three adorable grandsons!

While we were in Florida, Newt and I met up with Larry Broga at a classic car show in Ocala. I posted a photo of us on my Classmates’ webpage. Last I knew Leslie Walton was teaching in Pittsfield, MA. I may still have an address for her; I will try to locate her. Sookee Stockwell and I went to the same church in Camden, Maine many years ago. Our kids were the same age and we used to get together from time to time. I think I can find her, too. I’ll do my best. I was so sorry to learn about Kathy DeLong’s passing.

If anyone comes to Northampton, let's get together.

Love to everyone,
Diana W

This is really great connecting with classmates. Diana, I am sorry Florida did not work out but MA and then VA aren't all that bad.

A number of years ago, like maybe 8 to 10, my dad told me that he had gone to a yard sale at your folks home on Flanders Rd. He spoke with either you or your sister and shared the conversation back with me. Was it you or Joanna?

Hello Bob,
I remember speaking with your dad. I don't recall whether or not he bought anything at the yard sale, but I loved the fact that I was rather circuitously reconnected with the class of 1963. It was neat!
Good to hear from you.
Diana

Welcome aboard, Diana! I was so excited when I found you and Joanna and some others on Classmates.com, and I haven't finished digging and leaving little messages for them.

Hi Diana,
The year Mom died, I travelled with Dad from Florida. On the nostalgia tour through Massachusetts, we stopped at Little Dorothy [the lake that served as the water/power source for his company, Buck Brothers, years ago] in Millbury, wondering if the dam was still operational. When visiting with a man who had also stopped to look at the dam, he mentioned that he was from Westboro - turns out it was your brother - small world.
later. . .kris : )
I enjoyed your and Joanna's pictures on Classmates.com

Hi Kris,
Small world indeed! What are the odds of the happening!
Looks like you are still in Big Sky country. One of my favorite states! Back in the 60s Joanna and I camped from New Hampshire to California, and we fell in love with Wyoming. The hot springs at Thermopolis were amazing! That trip was quite the adventure. We pitched our tent the wrong way from the NH to Michigan or there 'bouts. One evening a guy asked us how long we'd been pitching the tent like that. Of course, we initially thought that he was being a hot shot, but when he was kind enough to point out our error, we were grateful and somewhat abashed, to say the least.
Look forward to leaning more about life in the beautiful part of the country!
Best,
Diana

Hi Kris,
Maybe Wyoming is not 'big sky' county. Now I'm thinking it is Forever West. You would know better than I!
Again,
Diana

Big Sky Country is MONTANA, my favorite place in the whole wide world! I hope to live there someday soon!

Hi Kris,
It is a small world as I now live on Dorothy Pond in Millbury across from Little Dorothy & it's funny that in Millbury they pronounce it "Little Daugherty".
