Glutamine is highly in demand throughout the body. It is used in the gut and immune system extensively to maintain optimal performance. 61% of free-form amino acids floating in skeletal muscles is L-glutamine. L-glutamine plays a very important role in protein metabolism, and it appears to be a very important nutrient for body builders. When supplemented, it may help body builders reduce the amount of muscle deterioration that occurs because other tissues that need glutamine will not rob the glutamine stored in the muscle cells.

Research shows that after intensely working out, glutamine levels in the body are reduced by as much as 50%. Since the body relies on glutamine as cellular fuel for the immune system, scientific studies have shown that glutamine supplementation can minimize the breakdown of muscle tissue and improve protein metabolism. Its effects on replenishing the body after stress or trauma have been shown in Europe where it is commonly given to patients in hospitals. Glutamine's cell-volumizing effects have also been shown in several studies. Here's what I know of the lovely young ladies competing for the title for MKOT....some of them I have never seen before so I'm going to wait to be pleasantly surprised at state and just leave their title by their name:

1. Laura Jones: Sweet girl and very talented. I am always entertained when she plays fiddle. I'm sure she will be Top 10 or Top 5 again and would make a lovely winner
2. Callie Smith, Paducah
3. Emma Parks, Knott County
4. Kimiko Kasama: She played piano at her prelim, and I think she will be a very good dancer at state!
5. Taylor Elizabeth Reber, Ashland Area
6. Erynn Reed Landherr, A very pretty and very experienced young lady. Is she tapping for her talent at state? She's got a glow about her on stage. She'll do well, especially for a new girl!
7. Ashley Michelle Wright, Grayson
8. Madison Elizabeth McCowan, BEAUTIFUL! While she may not be the best "technical" dancer...she is always fun to watch and has a great spunk on stage...I predict top 5 for sure.
9. Peyton Madison Blanton, Bluegrass Area
10. Ellen Jade Williams Green, My Old Kentucky Home
11. Emily Ann Eicher, She has a gerat interview and is very graceful looking! I do hope she makes top 10 this year!!
12. Kelsey DeBord, No one can deny that this little blonde is beautiful! She's always sounded very good everytime I've heard her sing and I'm excited to hear her sing a new type of song and show a different range! I predict top 10 maybe even top 5.
13. Miranda Meghan Sergent, This young lady always has the BEST wardrobe, she is very very pretty!

15. Jessica Caruso, pretty good little singer!
16. Jenna Day, Very talented and smart. She has matured since she competed at teen a few years ago, so I'm sure she will be really ready...Top 5!

1st Annual Little Miss Centralian Pageant



For the past thirty-five years, Knott County Central High School has held the Miss Centralian Pageant. For the first time ever, the school will hold the 1st Annual Little Miss Centralian Pageant on June 20th. The pageant will begin at 7:00 pm with Devaudrey Bixler, the reigning Miss Centralian crowning the winners. Age groups are 0-2; 3-5; 6-8 and 9-11.
Contestants will compete in Beauty competition will they will be judged on Facial Beauty, modeling and/or personality, Attire and Overall appearance. Photogenic competition will also be offered to the participants. Also, contestants will model to upbeat music in the Sportswear competition. Talent competition is an optional event offered (age groups 0-3; 4-7 and 8-11) along with categories: Most Beautiful; Best Dress; Prettiest Eyes, Best Smile and Best Personality.
Awards will be given in all phrases of competition that include Large trophies, rhinestone crowns and banners. The overall winner (score based on Beauty, Photogenic and Sportswear) will be crowned “LITTLE MISS CENTRALIAN” and help with the crowning of the new Miss Centralian this November. She will also make appearances throughout the county with Miss Centralian Devaudrey Bixler and have her photo featured in the annual program book.
“Little Miss Centralian” will have the opportunity to meet celebrities at the Miss Centralian this November. Madison McCowan, Miss Bowling Green Outstanding Teen 2009, was recently featured in her hometown newspaper and on the Turn For the Judges website for her platform work. Madison recently formed a local "Pay It Forward" chapter in London, Kentucky, and at age 17 she is the youngest local chapter president in the history of the organization. As part of her initiative she has donated 150 teddy bears to Shriner's Children's Hospital.

Miss UofL Crowned in Ceremony on UofL Campus

April Reinle, a freshman physical therapy major at the University of Louisville, was crowned Miss UofL during a pageant held March 11 on the university's Belknap campus. There were 10 contestants in this year's pageant.

Reinle will represent UofL at the Miss Kentucky and Miss America pageants later this year and receives UofL scholarships valued at nearly $5,000.

The first runner up title went to art history major Elaina Shumake, a sophomore at UofL, and second runner up went to Lauren Drake, a graduate student working toward a Master' degree in bioethics and medical humanities.

Pageant organizers introduced a new award this year—the Miss UofL Community Service Award. Nursing student Amanda Nido won the award for her work on cancer prevention and awareness.

The Miss Kentucky pageant will be held July 16 18 at the University of Kentucky. The Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization provides $50,000 in scholarship money to the top contestants.

The Miss UofL pageant is sponsored by Delta Zeta Sorority. The sorority resurrected the pageant tradition in 2008.

CATEGORGIES ARE AS FOLLOWS

LITTLE MISS AND MR 5-7YRS OLD
PRE-TEEN 8-12 YRS OLD
TEEN- 13-15 YRS OLD
MISS - 16-21 YRS OLD


FOR THE PRE-TEEN, TEEN, AND MISS THERE WILL BE AN ONSTAGE QUESTION AS PART OF THE INTERVIEW

THERE WILL BE NO ONE ON ONE INTERVIEW IT WILL BE DONE ONSTAGE

WE HAVE SOME CHANGES THIS YEAR AT THE PAGEANT , AS BEFORE ALL WINNERS FROM EACH DIVISION WILL GET THE CHANGE TO GO TO STATE AND COMPETE AND REPRESENT BELL CO . THE PRETEEN, TEEN, CAGEORIES WILL HAVE THERE ROOMS PAID FOR AT THE STATE LEVEL.

FOR THE MISS CATEGORY THIS YEAR WE WILL BE DOING SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT A LITTLE EXTRA BONUS FOR THE WINNER OF THE MISS DIVISION WILL RECEIVE A CASH SCHOLARSHIP TO WHICH WILL VARY BETWEEN (500.00 TO 1,000.00 DOLLARS TO PAY FOR THEIR COLLEGE TUTION AND BOOKS ) THE SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT WILL BE DETEREMINED AS IT GETS CLOSER TO THE PAGEANT . WHICH WILL HAVE TO BE VOTED ON BY THE BELL CO FAIR BOARD.

PAGEANT TIMES ARE STILL BEING DETEREMINED AT THIS TIME BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THE PAGEANT WILL KICKOFF AROUND 10:30 TO 11:00 AM THAT MORNING AND WILL BEGIN WITH THE LITTLE MISS AND MR DIVISION FIRST THEN PRETEEN, TEEN, AND FINALLY MISS.
