In reply to: Sharon 's message, "James Darren - 88" on 09/ 2/24 7:38:01pm

Singer-actor James Darren, whose multiple talents included the top 10
hits "Goodbye Cruel World" and "Her Royal Majesty" plus movies like
"Gidget" and the TV show "T.J. Hooker," has reportedly died in his
sleep. He was 88. His real name was James William Ercolani.

Among the many news outlets to confirm this passing included U.S. Sun,
Variety Magazine, Wikipedia, Hollywood Reporter and dateline.com.

This was the biggest of James Darren's 10 pop hits, a #3 song from late 1961...

"Goodbye Cruel World" included a unique instrumental solo that sounded
like a calliape but wasn't. Instead, the late Gloria Wood provided the
sound that was recorded at 7.5 speed but doubled in speed on the
record.

James Darren also had this top tenner in March of 1962 that was one of
at least 44 top 40 hits written by the legendary team of Carole King
and Gerry Goffin...

Among James Darren's movies was the Dick Clark-starred "Because
They're Young" in 1960. While Duane Eddy had his biggest hit of the
movie's theme song with the #4 peaking hit as an instrumental, James
Darren had the vocal version of the song in that movie...

James Darren's stellar career included at least 14 albums, 25 movies
and 30 TV shows. He once admitted on a 1982 TV show he hosted that he
turned down what would become the #1 single of 1973. That was "Tie A
Yellow Ribbon Round The Oak Tree" by Tony Orlando and Dawn.
