Subject: Containing Nuclear Radiation (concrete walls)

Hello-

I have been researching the Chernobyl incident and its effects on the world, and have run across some very disturbing information about the concrete case that prevents radiation from leaking out into the atmosphere. According to a BBC news report from April 2003, the walls which were only meant to last five years, have never been properly maintained or replaced, due to lack of money. This obviously would led to massive radiation leakage if it is allowed to continue. Private donors have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars for this, but construction has not started.

This leds to my query. Can anyone answer exactly how much money is required for the construction of the second wall, and when is construction expected to commence? Also, what other measures are being taken by the United Nations to recitify this grave problem? This information is required for a school project, so any answers or informational websites would be very much appreciated.
