Zeth’s life was a series of very unfortunate events. First, he’d been born. Second, he’d been born as the son of Alairic. Third, he’d been turned into a vampire against his will. Fourth, he met Briallan. Fifth, Bri didn’t know about birth control. Sixth, he’d spawn multiple children that hated him and that he didn’t even want. And finally, everyone blamed him for everything. Here he was, in the middle of a sidewalk, trying to save a human girl. He did not ask for her to trespass into her property. And he’d done her a solid, actually, by not killing her before. He was trying to be nice. And look how it’d turned out for him. He did not, despite having wanted too, call Tarot in. He also, I’d like to point out, did not tell her to grab and wear the binding bracelets. So why, on God’s green earth, was he being blamed? He was outside of the net and the idea of just walking away had crossed his mind several times. But he stayed because he was a nice guy.

Sure, he’d been nice to Fury their first meeting at the pier. In retrospect, he probably should have just shoved her off the pier like he’d wanted to. Watching her drown would have been much more entertaining for him than watching, helplessly, as she was molested…and not even by him! This situation had lost all fun. He had tried to play it cool. He had tried to be commanding, he had tried to use magic, he had tried to follow their demands…but still, Fury was pinned and now Tarot was in Lucian’s arms. Heaven was looking like a great retreat right about now.

“Lucian. What if I trade myself for Fury?” Heck. Even Hell in the VU basement seemed more fun. “I mean, after all, you wanted me badly enough before and I outsmarted you.” He was trying to rub Lucian the wrong way by challenging the one thing he actually had- an ego.

(not my best, sorry!)
