"Thanks for saving me. If you hadn't of been here..."

Her statement didn't need finishing- what probably would've happened was a given. He tried remembering doing any such heroic deed, though, but couldn't. All he remembered was writhing on the ground after being kicked and picking up the gun, the rest was a bit of a blur. Oh yes, and being a lousy shot. No, his prints were all over that thing, it wasn't a lousy shot. He'd be screwed if he'd killed the man. Had he? No, he didn't think so. What if the idiot had gone off somewhere and bled to death? Pf, as if anybody'd care. His train of thoughts was busy steering off the tracks, and he stifled a yawn. Oh well, at least her words had somewhat helped in healing his bruised ego.

"No, you're not."

"Oh yeah, you wanna bet?" he said with a small, weak smile. His brain was too tired and busy trying to stitch the night's events together to think of anything witty or even remotely funny to say, so he simply didn't try. "Ok, here we go." As Midori made a move to stand up, he slowly did the same, supporting her weight against him until they were both standing. He kept one arm folded across his midriff and the other around Midori's shoulders, lightly hugging her closer to him. "Which way's your place?" he asked, looked down the street with a cough before turning back to look at Midori.
