Huuuuge Off-season, whippets board realised we were hovering in the lower end of the 8 without enough quality talent coming through and some aging players who wouldn’t be winning at flag at whippets. So we traded out a couple stars, topped up with some ready made but younger best 22s and hit the draft for some kids.

OUT
Brad Crouch (STK) [Trade]
Adam Treloar (WBD) [Trade]
Trent McKenzie (PA) [Trade]
Henry Smith (BL) [Trade]
Ryan Lester (BL) [Trade]
Liam Jones (CA) [Trade]
Jack Newnes (CA) [Trade]
Zac Langdon (WCE) [Trade]
Tom Jonas (PA) [Trade]
Shaun Atley (NTH) [AFL Delist]
Derek Eggmollesse-Smith (RIC) [AFL Delist]
Reece Conca (FRE) [AFL Delist]

IN
Tim O'Brien (WBD) [Trade] - New club in need of a KPD that can play, very likely best 22 and replaces loss of Jones/Jonas in whippets 22.
Daniel Howe (HAW) [Trade] - Losing Treloar hurt so bringing in a younger best 22 player covers the hit, albeit not the same scoring output, there’s still a little upside in Howe.
Jack Buckley (GWS) [Trade] - Really offered something this year and GWS talls are ready for the next wave, Buckley can become a stalwart, needs to get over the ACL injury.
Josh Gibcus (Tigers) [Pick 8] - Went with needs in the first pick, surprised this guy was available, best KPD in the draft and went to a club that needs this exact type.
Neil Erasmus (Freo) [Pick 10] - Best available here, struggled to pick where he would land in the draft but super stoked to bring in a fwd/mid and at Freo who just lost Cerra could see an opening in the short term.
Josh Sinn (PA) [Pick 12] - Had been touted a top 5 pick. Slid and snapped up by whippets. With 3 picks inside 12, the player we really wanted was Hobbs, but to have the next 3 guys ok the list available - we’re calling this a near perfect haul.
Zac Taylor (ADE) [Pick 24] - Huge afl slider, like the way he just appears everywhere, hard at it for an undersized player and a great kick inside 50.
Greg Clark (WCE) [Pick 27] - Ready made, only 24, will slot straight into round 1 at west coast and whippets
Charlie Dean (COL) [Pick 45] - Ready made 20yo, missed his draft year as a KPF, was swung to KPD in vfl this year and won the award. Pies lack a tad in this swing role so might get some luck here.
Oisin Mullin (CATs) [Pick 48] - The best kid in Ireland. Goes to a club to play along side Touhy who is aging. You would think it’s the perfect traineeship?! His highlights are something! Fingers crossed he makes a solid transition.
Dante Vesentini (PA) [Pick 56] - Purely needs with this late pick, PA moved on Ladhams and replace him with this young tall. Well down pecking order but you need to carry some developing types here n there. Suits balance.
Cody Raak (WBD) [Pick 63] - Intercept defender who can go fwd n kick a goal. Was clutching at straws with this pick and to best honest it was one highlights reel that won me over. Looks to have enough of the good things going for him to make an impact.

Went into this draft a bit light on for KPP, yet overall we managed to draft in a very good spread and now have 15 KPP. Also did a little drafting (purely luck) for players from afl clubs whippets don’t have many of. This will help bye rounds and overall balance.

Couldn’t be happier with this draft haul.
+ with a live trade, whippets will have 1 x top 5 pick in 2022 (our own after a slide in ladder position next year) + 5 picks in the 2nd round… 5 picks in the top 27 in 2021, another 6 picks in the top 27 in 2022…. It’s a solid snap rebuild ahead, while mr. Sam Walsh aims for a flag with whippets!!
