Finally pulled the pin on the rebuild after lining up a couple of trades.

TRADES:

When Aaron suggested Oliver could be on the table, I jumped at the opportunity and sorted out a trade that same night. Given Crisp, Cameron, Stewart and Membrey would all be long retired by the time KINGS had a run at a premiership, I was happy to trade them out for who I think could be a top 5 supercoach scorer for the foreseeable future. I was also able to turn Warriors F1 in to Hobbs in the AFL draft which I was very happy with, more to come on him.

Since the KINGS formed in the 2017 off season, Crisp has been the #1 on disposals, and Membrey and Cameron have been the leading goal kickers for the team so it will be sad to see them go. Tom Stewart also arguably the #1 KPD in the comp for the last few years. They played over over 310 games between them at the club.

I did a small trade with the new QUOKKAS, turning Mabior Chol and Archie Perkins in to Sam De Koning and Josh Ward via the draft, I think it will take about 3 seasons for this one to pay off, but I'm hoping long term this will be a double upgrade in similar roles. I'm banking on SDK ending up in the revolving door of Geelong ruckmen within 12-24 months.

FINAL TRADE INS:
Clayton Oliver
Sam De Koning
Laitham Vandermeer
A bundle of picks

TRADE OUTS
Jack Crisp
Tom Stewart
Charlie Cameron
Tim Membrey
Nick Murray
Archie Perkins
Mabior Chol

DRAFT:
I was extremely happy with my draft haul, the stars aligned early on which lead to some active trading on my part. Very eager to improve my midfield stocks given the lenient bench rules in SL, hopefully have done that. I'm also tipping the underexposed VIC players to show their worth in years 1+2 in the AFL.

Pick 5: Josh Ward,
This was a lock to be Hobbs until he went pick 13 in the AFL draft which was music to my ears! I took a gamble and picked up Ward here (my second preference), hoping to sneak in a trade for Hobbs later in the draft which ended up being a blessing - ROO's would have taken Ward and I would have missed out on the trade if I took Hobbs. Plus Brendo wanted him which is always a bonus :P

Ward has the endurance to play on the outside for a couple of years while he builds size to become a centre bounce lock. With Hawks already publicly saying they would move on older players in the next couple years I'm expecting him to play most games very soon.

Pick 6: Benjamin Hobbs:
Hobbs was my man since day 1 (like Powell last year). I've been following for a while and think he's the best in and under midfielder in the group, which also leads to big supercoach points. He's already bigger than half of Essendon's midfield group. I don't rate the dons mids as a group so I see again see a lot of early AFL experience here.

Pick 20: Tyler Sonsie
At pick 20, Tyler was the only player I saw on the table who I really liked that hadn't been picked up yet. With some people ranking him a top 3 contender 12 month ago (bit of a reach - maybe 7-10ish for me before injury) I think the upside here was well worth the risk. As soon as match fit I see him leap frogging many of the Richmond kids already in the system. He has been touted as possibly the best kick inside 50 in the draft, which early days while he plays more forward time will come in very handy.

Pick 54: Cooper Murley
I had Murley as a possible second rounder, happy to see him slip back from there. A bit like Sonsie, he was starved of play time by COVID + injury. I picked his name up on my watch list when he finished runner up to Tom Powell in the U18's but was a full year younger and he stayed on my radar. Just a calculated gamble here.

I enjoy a rebuild and hopefully can see some early pay off from the big trades made!

Enjoy the break all.
