Subject: That Trade

I see a few are unhappy at the trade me and John made, I think people are being a bit rough on John. We've been chatting for weeks about the trade, there is reason behind it.

I'm rebuilding , I wanted Mclean, and Rosas Jnr,
Mclean is a promising tall forward and was just signed by The Swans for two more years, playing alongside Buddy Franklin.
Rosas Jnr was chased by Essendon and rejected them to stay at the Suns so the Suns must have a good offer for him.
I also think The Suns have a lot of good young talent so the fact they fought to keep him says a lot about his value.

But I knew there was no way they'd be worth pick two of course. So I asked John if he could get a top ten pick to trade with them.
He could only get 14. I wasn't gonna do that though. So we went away and thought through it.
Then John asked about Jake Kelly (he moved to the Bombers) and I initially said no, but then got thinking that Rioli and Blakey are gonna be playing down back now and maybe Mitch McGovern,
so I might be able to add Jake Kelly to the deal and get another promising young talent and John offered up Weightman, one of the most promising young small forwards in the game.

I really felt I'd get more out of those 3 players Mclean, Rosas Jnr and Weightman in the future than I would out of a pick two. and I still keep a first rounder. I've still got 5 picks inside the top 25.

Three of the players I traded him were on my trade list, most of the people that approached me were trying to get players off me I want to keep and no one asked about pick two except for one other coach.

Tarrant is 33 next April.
Cunnington is over 30 and fighting cancer.
Hammil, well he's a fringe player, hasn't shown high scoring potential.
I had them all on my trade list.

The future picks were probably the only things I was a bit dubious about.

I'm actually pretty happy with the deal, I get 3 promising youngsters and still keep 5 picks inside the top 25, for one elite kid, an average back that's 190cm but refuse KPB rating,
2 old guys that spent more time in the injury room than on the ground last season and a fringe player.

What's so wrong with the deal??
