Deep in the tunnels of the subway is a city of shifters. Their existence is unknown to most humans that live in Cascade City, despite the honorable services they are noted for.

There are two ways to become a shapeshifter; be born a shapeshifter or receive a deep wound from one. Most clans, including The Route, have strict rules about attacking humans and if a human is injured they do all they can to keep the human under surveillance to ensure the human does not become a shifter themselves. Clans have been known to kidnap injured humans just to ensure their safe recovery or transition.

The Route, though secret, is no mystery to the world of the un-human. It was a known fact that the shifters congregate and have a structured society just like any other breed. Shapeshifters are private and strict, and will not tolerate disobedience or threats to their clan. Threats, enemies or rogues in their territory are dealt with using violence.
