The poet, narrator and essayist Enrique González Rojo, winner of the Xavier Villaurrutia Award in 1976 for "The quintuple bleating of my senses," died this morning, reported his daughter, Graciela González Phillips.
González Rojo Arthur was born in Mexico City on October 5, 1928. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the National Autonomous University of Mexico and graduated in 1959 with the thesis "Anarchism and historical materialism."
The Secretariat of Culture of Mexico City regretted the death of the writer through his Twitter account, as did the Directorate of Literature and Promotion of Reading of the UNAM.
"Let us remember his work with the essay‘ Thematize the infinite: around the poetry of Enrique González Rojo ’, by Jorge Santiago Barrios," said the Directorate.
The deputy and cultural promoter Hirepan Maya shared the poem “Forecast”, by González Rojo Arthur, whom he defined as a “libertarian poet”.
For her part, Paloma Sáiz, director of the Para Leer en Libertad association, indicated that the writer's death is "terrible." "The only thing that consoles us is that he leaves us his enormous work as a poet, as a philosopher, as a thinker and as a great man of the left."
The academic and writer Héctor Iván González recalled that he once spoke with González Rojo Arthur: “We are talking about Sartre, Marx and their second cousin Salvador Elizondo. He was always very generous and a privileged witness of his time ”.
