GRAHAM, N.C. — North Carolina humorist Jeanne Robertson died Saturday morning, according to her professional Facebook page. She was 77.

According to her Facebook page, Robertson was struggling with medical issues that were not related to COVID-19, WRAL reported.

Robertson, who stood 6 feet, 2 inches tall, was noted for her stage presence, combining her Southern accent with a wry sense of humor.

Robertson was named Miss North Carolina in 1963 when she was Jeanne Swanner. She wrote four books, including “Don’t Bungee Jump Naked and other Important Stuff,” and was president of the National Speakers Association, according to her website.

The North Carolina Press Association named Robertson its 2001 North Carolinian of the Year, according to Robertson’s website.

Robertson’s husband, Jerry Ray Robertson, died two months ago, WRAL reported. He was captain of the Duke University men’s basketball team during the late 1950s, the television station reported.

Jeanne Robertson served on the board of trustees at Elon University, where her son attended, according to WRAL.

“We are sure Jeanne is now telling stories in heaven, all the angels are laughing,” Robertson’s Facebook page said.
