Wade A. Tisthammer, you wrote in part: >>>Depends on how you define present-day “Christianity.” I would also be curious as to what exactly you think original Christianity was like. <<<
..... Look at Acts 2:44-47 and Acts 4:32-37 for a start re the ORIGINAL Christianity. Want more details?

>>> one of the pressing questions in earliest Christianity was, “Can a Gentile believe in Jesus?” (See Acts 15.) <<<
..... That would have depended on the stage of the development/evolution of Christianity at the time. As I understand it, Jesus never actually said that he is God, but others said it of him (see John's gospel) in or close to the 2nd century. That would, in non-gentile eyes, be acceptable per pagan mythology, but in most Jews' eyes it would be completely unacceptable, and from then on Christianity would be the enemy of those Jews.

>>> there are recorded instances of Jews persecuting Christians).
..... I'm not surprised; anyone saying that a Jew, and Jesus was a Jew, could be God very likely would be labeled a heretic, and there were Jewish laws about what to do with heretics.
