On this same issue, out of curiosity, I thought I'd look up "strait" in the dictionary. Well, interestingly enough, the word "strait," when used as an adjective (which is how it is being used in that passage), has nothing to do with water whatsoever. Here is the definition:
1 archaic : STRICT, RIGOROUS
2 archaic a : NARROW b : limited in space or time c : closely fitting : CONSTRICTED, TIGHT
3 a : causing distress : DIFFICULT b : limited as to means or resources
Notice the word "archaic" there, letting us know we won't hear this word used as an adjective much these days. But there is nothing there about water. The only time "strait" has to do with water is when it is a noun. Like if it said, "Enter in through the strait."
Why I'm fighting this battle, I have no clue. I think that even most Christians would readily agree with me, so why am I bothering? Oh, well. At least Robert will no doubt change his view based on my informative posts.
Right?
Ben
