Re: Ideas and opinions on Air pollution in Ulaanbaatar city -- Bat, 22:08:20 12/20/09 Sun [1]
We can not fix it now, it's too late. we can't move all these ger districts and fucking old cars. Only way is move UB city to somewhere like Kazakhstan. Of course a lot of money needs for that, but if government wants it, it's possible and we can make it.

>We need to start streching the city, rather than adding more to it. I heard some people had an idea saying to cut open the Bogd mountain that way all the trapped smoke escape. I guess people are trying to do something but don't know what.

Re: Ideas and opinions on Air pollution in Ulaanbaatar city -- Munkhbold, 22:25:26 01/04/10 Mon [1]
Hi All,
Thanks for opening this discussion forum. I just wanted to share some information regarding our efforts to help improve the air quality situation in UB (there is a Youtube video link at the end of this posting for your information and comments. You have got to see it!).
There are many options for solving the air pollution problem in UB. Because the problem is so enormous the solution will be complex, that is it will involve implementation of many options, including
- new housing construction
- using smokeless treated coal
- using fuel efficient, full combustion stoves
- using electric heating
- etc
Over the past 3 years a few of us developed a new product called E-Stove (Electric Stove) designed to provide an alternative to traditional fuel burning stove. The E-stove is a multifunctional electric appliance with unique design that can be used as a furniture (table), cooker, heater and a cooling fan in summer. It was designed specifically for using inside gers.
The product has entered the market in 2009 with great initial response from customers. By end of this winter we will know more about how our product can influence the air pollution in UB. We know that it is not a perfect solution.
Using electricity for heating in UB is not an easy road. Many potential customers like our product, and we are enjoying some attention from UNDP office, which is currently running some tests to evaluate E-stove's capacities.
However, we are facing a lot of misunderstanding, disbelief and resistance from some customers, government officials and even international agencies. It is mainly due to relative newness of the product and lack of information. So we have a lot of work to do ahead of us.
We think that one E-stove can remove one smoke pipe at a time. If there are 10,000 gers using E-stove (there are total of 70,000 gers in UB), there must be 10,000 less smoke pipes emitting pollution directly in the neighborhood.
However some experts (mainly international) argue that because the electricity used by E-stoves is produced by power plants using coal, there is no pollution reduction achieved.
I would like to hear your ideas regarding this last question.
You can view the Report by National TV re E-stove at the following link:

We would love to hear your comments and suggestions. We are also interested in joining forces with supporters in our efforts to promote E-stove as part of a solution to air pollution problem in UB.
All the Best,
Munkhbold

response to E-stove -- jagi, 09:36:22 01/05/10 Tue [1]
Thank you for your useful and inspiring information.
i really appreciate what u have done. And I think the more possible solution is E stove project that u developed. I also think there should have lot of problems, but anyway,
New housing construction and usage of smokeless treated coal and electric heating may not go easy to get success, i think. So I also really want to do something to contribute to find a potential supporter to produce. Also I wonder in case if we find a sponsor, why dont we produce it inside the country_? If we can do it in domestically it will be more sustainable and only for designed mongolian gers and nobody can adopt and etc...
Thank you and I will be happy to contribute with u to success E-stove project.
also i think we should do more advertisement and make people to realize its true efficiency. have you ever tried any japanese companies before,?

I storgly belive that Air pollution must be solved.I think you said by using E-stove or(electricity stove ) will reduce the air pollution. I storgly disagree with you because the factories are burning coala to produce electricity and that coals will pollute the air to produce electricity so the pollution is doing it's job through coals. And do you know that elctricity stove costume more energy that any other machine so as i belive it is better to change what you had write . thank you.
