THE FIRST ANNUAL HILL COUNTRY PET PAGEANT
SATURDAY APRIL 17TH - NOON - 5PM
HOSTED AT THE HEN HOUSE CAFE ON HWY 87 COMFORT TX

Fun & Educational event to promote animal welfare and adoptions

COMFORT, TEXAS…Visitors and locals alike are invited to come on April 17th to the Hen House Cafe where the Greater Comfort Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the first annual Hill Country Pet Pageant. There will be prizes and ribbons for all entrants competing for titles such as; Best Behaved, Best Hair, Best Dressed, Best Trick, Best Friend, Only a Face a Mother could Love and more.

Children under 12 entering contest $5.00. Entrants over 13 - $10.00. Proceeds from this event will go to help support the Center Point and Comfort FAA programs. Everyone is a winner with a ribbon for competing and prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place contestants in each category.

Local photographer Jennifer Bursaw will be at the event offering to take a professional 5x7 photo of you and your pet for just $10.00!

There will be representatives from many local shelters and rescue operations with pets for adoption and information on their efforts to educate people about animal husbandry and care.

Local Veterinarian Benji Aldridge of Aldridge Veterinary Clinic will be on hand to provide low cost immunizations and advice for your pet.

The Hen House Cafe will be open all during the event serving great homemade food and drinks to hungry attendees.

Vendor with products for your pet will also be present to provide pet owners with many unique gifts and accessories.

Competition limited to small pets only. (No horses, goats or sheep please)

Comfort Little Theater Marks its 77th Year of Home Spun Humor in the Hill Country
2010 Production "Support Your Little Theater or Cash for Drunkards"

Comfort Texas - Since 1933, Comfort Little Theater has been producing shows that provide nonstop laughter and great music. You also get a chance to catch a glimpse of the funny side of life in the Texas Hill Country. For four nights this Spring CLT will take over the "theater district" in downtown Warring, Texas a.k.a. the Warring Dancehall, and it promises to be yet another great show.

Shows are always on Friday and Saturday with the dates for the 2010 performances set for April 23rd - 24th and April 30th - May 1st. Ticket sales are only at the door (starting at "dark thirty" about an hour later. Seasoned attendees use this time to have a drink and listen to some of the finest Texas musicians from this area or visit with cast and crew that wander through the crowd.

Material comes from everyday events, but the CLT writers always add a twist .. or maybe they are just twisted. "We kick off our planning for every show in October with an event we affectionately call The Fall Gathering of the Nuts." said 2010 Director Bob Klemstein. "The Cash for Clunkers program was in full swing when we met last Fall and promised so much great material we just had to use it .. . Thus the title Cash for Drunkards"

The humor is targeted for an adult crowd, sometimes bordering risqué`. That fact drives a very unusual ticket pricing schedule. Adults are only $5.00 (Cheap), however kids are at $10.00 and crying babies are $50.00 . . . no kidding!

All of this fun ends up generating funds. Thousands of dollars are distributed annually to area organizations and to education pursuits. "Through Comfort Little Theater we are able to do donate to area volunteer fire departments, mobile medical clinics, youth groups and many others, " said CLT President Mickey George. "We are especially pleased that we can provide college scholarships every year." George is a second generation CLT actor and writer.

In fact, many of the CLT players are second or even third generation. The writers work hard to come up with new material every year, but some of the jokes can make the same claim. "I can promise you that you will get your $5.00 (cheap) worth of entertainment or we will do it again next year or for as long as it takes to get it right" said Klemstein.

Coming from San Antonio, Waring can be found by simply taking I-10 West driving past Boerne for about 11 miles and exit for Waring. Follow the official road signs and a few carefully placed CLT signs, to Waring. Coming from Points in the Hill Country just find Comfort and follow the signs to Waring.

Food, setups, beer and various soft drinks are available and like the price of admission are very affordable. If you miss it, well . . . it's your own fault.

Open Air Market at General & Thrif -- Dawne, 08:50:44 03/19/10 Fri [1]
Hot Event!! General and Thrift will be hosting a "Mini Flea Market" we are calling the OPEN AIR MARKET, on Saturday, April 3rd, from 8:00am until 4:00pm. We hope to have all 20 booths full for your shopping enjoyment! Already, we have signed up some interesting booths, Organic Soaps and lotions, Beaded Jewelry, Homemade Jams, Breads and some Flower Petal Art.

We are hoping to make this a monthly event. It will be held next to the historic "Brinkman Otto" house and behind our store at 606 High Street. Delicious BBQ and Beverages will be available for purchase while you browse great selections! This is in addition to the opening of the Farmer's Market that morning. Come make a day of fun in downtown Comfort!

We have scheduled our first Greater Comfort Area Chamber board meeting for March 10 - Wed 5:30 pm
Everyone is invited to come - learn more about the Chamber and express your thoughts on our new organization.
On the agenda is the members voting on the installation of our board of directors.
We will be meeting at the Chamber office 20 hwy 87 Comfort
(Located inside the Comfort Land and Homes office)
