Author: Don in Vermont (Wrong state according to Nissan)
Subject: I'm supposed to wait another YEAR AND A HALF now? WTF?

It sounds like unless you live in one of the five "magical states", it won't be until Fall of 2011 until you can get a Nissan Leaf. I really think I want one- and this just sucks. I don't live in one of those states, and now Nissan is saying it's going to be another year and a half. After they told us we would get them at the end of 2010. What's going on? Why did they lie to us? What happened?

This just SUCKS. I'm not happy. Maybe I need to think about the Chevy Volt now. Or does Nissan think I should move?

"Consumers who have placed reservations for the Leaf were informed Tuesday regarding market timing and next steps in ordering the all-electric vehicle.

The Leaf, which will eventually be built at the Smyrna facility, first will be available to consumers in December, in California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona and Tennessee. These areas are home to The EV Project — the largest electric vehicle and infrastructure deployment ever undertaken, Nissan says. The EV Project is a result of a partnership with charging infrastructure provider ECOtality and partially funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Customers in these first five launch states, who represent more than 55 percent of total Nissan Leaf reservations, will be able to place firm orders for the Leaf starting in August. With the help of federal tax credits, the Leaf's price would drop to $25,280 from $32,780.
The Leaf will be introduced to Texas and Hawaii shortly thereafter, in January; North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina and Alabama follow in April; and be rolled-out to the rest of the nation beginning in fall 2011 with availability in all markets nationwide by the end of that year."
