Subject: What's the big delay with the Nissan LEAF? I think I know the answer....

OK, I think I figured out what the big delay is that Nissan won't reveal. And for the person in Vermont wondering how long it's really going to be, I hate to say it, but- don't hold your breath.

I think the LEAF is going to be terrific- unless you have cold weather where you live. (Did any of you "handraisers" notice that Nissan wanted to know if you had a garage? You prolly thought that was so you would have a secure place to install a charger, but now Im not so sure.)

Witness the inclusion of a mysterious "Temperature management" feature as part of the alleged "Cold Weather Package", that has not been explained.
From Nissan's Leaf Spec page...

http://www.nissanusa.com/ev/media/pdf/specs/FeaturesAndSpecs.pdf

Cold Weather Package:

- Temperature management
- Heated Seats
- Heated Steering Wheel
- Heated Mirror
- Hvac duct to read

Temperature management? Interestingly, this package is not available for vehicles shipped to the Magic States where Nissan has kept its word and is actually shipping the vehicles. (Notice that those are all warm-weather states, like California?) In other words- there is no such thing.

And why would anyone want to draw current off the battery to heat the seats and steering wheel? Or is this a cover for the real point- the "Temperature management" thingy?

For customers in cold weather states- the LEAF has been put off for a year. Why? No explanation was given, but given that Nissan partnered with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and now refuses to ship LEAFs, (LEAVES?) to that state, you have to figure something serious is up that Nissan is hiding from us. And it only makes sense that there is a problem with the battery in cold weather.

Factor in this mysterious, as-yet undisclosed "Temperature management" feature, and it seems this is indeed the problem.

Somehow I picture engineers at Nissan frantically trying to figure out just what this alleged "Temperature management" is going to actually be. And I hate to admit this, but I am rather dubious.
